Four Companies, One Facility: How MES Technologies Removes Handoffs From the Supply Chain

Electronics, precision machining, custom fasteners, and military packaging now operate inside the same building in South Hackensack, New Jersey.

Most defense buyers assemble a supply chain one vendor at a time. A machine shop produces the housing, an electronics house builds the circuit card assembly, a fastener supplier provides the hardware, and a packaging contractor prepares the shipment for the government. Each of those relationships carries its own lead time, its own paperwork, and its own risk of becoming the reason a program slips.

MES Technologies was organized to remove that problem. Marine Electric Systems, Aerospace Industries, MES Fasteners, and Rectico operate as four specialized companies under one owner, and as of this summer they operate inside one facility at 80 Wesley Street in South Hackensack, New Jersey. Marine Electric Systems covers defense electronics, proprietary naval product lines, and legacy sustainment. Aerospace Industries covers Swiss screw machining, CNC turning and milling, and mechanical assembly. MES Fasteners manufactures custom military grade fasteners. Rectico handles military packaging, crating, and the government documentation that travels with a shipment.

For a program office or a prime contractor, that arrangement changes what a purchase order looks like in practice. A part can be machined, assembled, tested, packaged to MIL-STD-2073, inspected, and shipped without ever changing hands between companies. The four companies work under shared quality and supply chain controls, which means one set of expectations applies from raw material through final government acceptance, and one point of accountability answers for the result.

The arrangement matters most on older platforms. Much of the work our companies perform supports systems that have been in service for decades, where the original manufacturer has closed or discontinued the product line and the drawings are incomplete. Having engineering, machining, electronics, and packaging in the same building allows us to reverse engineer a component, manufacture it, verify it, and ship it as one continuous process rather than coordinating four separate suppliers across four separate schedules.

If you are working through a sourcing problem that keeps moving between vendors, we would like to hear about it.
